A trailer has been released for a new movie, “Buffaloed” which is a comedy/drama film about a woman who, in the midst of serious financial trouble, becomes a debt collector and finds she’s pretty good at it. The movie is bound to further cement the stereotype that the debt collection industry is nothing but a bunch of shady scammers who are out to take advantage of as many people as possible.
The movie stars Zoey Deutch as Peg Dahl, who, after a run-in with the law, gets into university, only to realize she can not afford the tuition. So she goes to work for a shady debt collector.
“What’s the difference between a hooker and a debt collector,” the boss asks Peg as they walk through a bunch of tables in a warehouse with people manning the phones. “A hooker takes your money before screwing you.”
Peg finds that she is good at debt collecting, using the skills from her past to talk people into paying off their debts.
“There’s an amazing feeling you get when you find your true calling,” Peg says during the trailer.
Not content to just work for someone else, Peg gets the idea to start her own operation, taking on her former boss, so she can make “real money.” From there, the trailer shows physical violence, gunplay, more police officers — everything that happens during a day in the life of a collector in Buffalo, I guess.
To emphasize that the movie is going to make debt collectors look like upstanding citizens, the words “Lie,” “Cheat,” and “All in a Day’s Work” drive home the point that collectors will do anything to get a payment.
The movie is due to be released on Valentine’s Day.
