One of the biggest questions facing companies in the credit and collection industry, especially those working in states where licenses are required to operate, is who can and who can’t work from home.

Some states, like Illinois, New Jersey, and New Mexico have yet to issue any guidance about employees working from home, so the status quo should still be followed. In most other cases, the states have either published authoritative guidance (such as in the case of Connecticut, Idaho, Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Tennessee) or provided commentary about what it will and will not allow.
In the case of Michigan, for example, the state advised companies to “seek the advice of competent legal counsel” on how they need to operate. In New York City, the local government advised that “No correspondence to consumers should be sent by the business from any address other than a licensed address.”
