At any rate … The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a lower court’s ruling that the plaintiff in a Fair Debt Collection Practices Act lawsuit is not entitled to $25,000 in costs because he “requested costs not contemplated by the federal rules and relevant statue.”
N.M. SUPREME COURT FREEZES ISSUANCE OF NEW JUDGMENTS, GARNISHMENTS
- The New Mexico Supreme Court on Friday announced in an order that it is indefinitely suspending the issuance of new writs of garnishment and writs of execution in response to protecting individuals during the coronavirus pandemic.
FORMER PATIENTS SUE HEALTHCARE PROVIDER OVER COLLECTION PRACTICES
- A group of five plaintiffs have filed a class-action lawsuit against the Kentucky Department of Revenue and UK Healthcare, alleging the debt collection practices used by the defendants violate the patients’ right to due process.
