APPEALS COURT AFFIRMS SUMMARY JUDGMENT FOR DEFENDANT IN FDCPA CASE OVER ‘MAY’ CREDIT REPORT

  • May is not just a month anymore. It is now a word that debt collectors can use in collection letters when referencing credit reporting, according to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, which upheld a lower court’s ruling in favor of a collection agency that was sued for allegedly violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act because it said delinquent debts “may” be reported to a credit bureau.

JUDGE GRANTS MTD AFTER PLAINTIFF FILES FOR BK BECAUSE OF COLLECTION LETTER

  • An individual who filed bankruptcy because of what she read in a collection letter that was sent to her essentially overreacted, a District Court judge in Wisconsin ruled in granting a motion to dismiss filed by the defendant.

FCC PROPOSES RECORD FINE FOR ILLEGAL ROBOCALLER

  • The Federal Communications Commission has proposed a fine of $225 million which, if confirmed, would represent the largest fine it has ever assessed, after it accused a company of making more than 1 billion illegally spoofed robocalls.

COMPANY LAYING OFF 50% OF EMPLOYEES AS STUDENT LOAN COLLECTIONS REMAIN ON HOLD

  • A continued pause by the Department of Education in its collection of student loans has led a company to lay off half of its staff, according to a published report.

WORTH NOTING: The places across the country where the number of coronavirus cases are rising … The world’s tallest dog now holds another record … Bad boys, Bad boys, whatcha ya gonna do now? … Zoom is helping people celebrate without having to break the bank … Companies are looking to make “Juneteenth” a holiday … What happens when the extra unemployment benefits end next month … Why can’t Cam Newton find a job? … Countries with female leaders are doing really well at beating COVID-19.
