JUDGE AWARDS $17K IN DAMAGES, ATTORNEY’S FEES IN FCRA DEFAULT JUDGMENT
- A District Court judge in Arizona has awarded more than $17,000 in damages and attorney’s fees to a plaintiff who obtained a default judgment against a collection agency for allegedly violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act by furnishing inaccurate information because it reported a delinquent account that was more than seven years old.

- The 30-day comment period on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s proposal to delay the effective date of Regulation F, its Debt Collection Rule, is now open, after the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was published today in the Federal Register.

- A bill has been introduced in the Senate that seeks to prohibit financial institutions from denying services to law-abiding businesses, such as companies in the accounts receivable management industry, as a means of ensuring crackdowns like Operation Choke Point never happen again.
MINNESOTA AG SETTLES WITH STUDENT LOAN DEBT RELIEF COMPANY
- The Attorney General of Minnesota has reached a settlement with a student loan debt relief company that was accused of falsely promising student loan forgiveness which will see the company repay all the money it collected from customers in the state and cease operations in Minnesota until it registers as a debt settlement service provider.
