A trio of former staffers from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau have landed new gigs or announced their foray into public service. Here are summaries of each move.
Former CFPB Attorney Running for Senate Seat in Ohio
Morgan Harper, who spend three years working as a lawyer and advisor at the CFPB has announced her candidacy for the Senate seat in Ohio being vacated by the retiring Sen. Rob Portman [R-Ohio]. Harper, who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2020, losing to Rep. Joyce Beatty [D-Ohio] in the primary, is now challenging frontrunner Rep. Tim Ryan [D-Ohio], who has also announced plans to run for Senate.
Harper has labeled herself a progressive activist, and the list of jobs and experiences in her LinkedIn profile since leaving the Bureau four years ago supports that belief.
“Ohio needs fresh, new leadership in Washington and a new game plan,” she said in a video announcing her campaign. “Built from the ground up, door by door, block by block. It’s time for an Ohio where a woman’s right to choose is always protected, and we keep our streets safe from gun violence. Where workers get paid what we deserve. And where we finally achieve racial justice.”
Former CFPB Enforcement Head Joins Law Firm
Bryan Schneider, who spent two years at the CFPB as the Associate Director of its Supervision, Enforcement, and Fair Lending Division, is joining the law firm of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips as a partner. He will focus his practice on helping clients facing regulatory and enforcement issues with consumer financial services regulators.
Prior to working at the CFPB, Schneider was Secretary of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. He left the CFPB in June.
Schneider was part of an announced reorganization within the Bureau last year that would have restructured the CFPB’s supervision and enforcement units, but that was abandoned after employees at the Bureau pushed back against the changes.
Former CFPB COO Joins Consultancy
Donna Roy, who spent two years working at the CFPB as both its Chief Information Officer and Chief Operating Officer, is joining Guidehouse and will serve as a strategic advisor to the consultancy’s national security segment.
“Want to know why I joined Guidehouse?” Roy asked in a LinkedIn post. “They have a strong data practice that delivers for its customers.”
Prior to joining the CFPB, Roy spent 13 years working at the Department of Homeland Security.
Roy left the CFPB last month.
