The number of lawsuits alleging violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act all increased in March, compared with a month earlier, each growing by more than double-digit percentages, according to data released by WebRecon.
The number of FCRA lawsuits in March was 17% higher than February, while the number of FDCPA suits was up 11%. The volume of TCPA suits increased 10% in March from a month earlier.
Overall, though, through the first quarter of the year, the number of suits was down significantly compared with the first three months of last year, largely due to a 40% decline in the number of TCPA suits.
While the number of complaints filed by consumers with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was 8% higher in March than it was in February, the total was 11% less than the number filed in March of last year, and the total for the first three months of 2022 is down 3% from the record high that was sent in 2021.
