FORMER AGENCY OWNER SENTENCED TO PRISON IN PAY-TO-PLAY SCANDAL
- Don Donagher, the former owner and chief executive of Penn Credit, was sentenced to three months in prison on Friday, after pleading guilty to making payments to support the former Circuit Court Clerk of Cook County, Illinois, as a means of attempting to help land contracts for his company.
JUDGE PARTIALLY GRANTS MTD IN FDCPA CASE OVER LACK OF LICENSE
- A District Court judge in New Jersey has granted a defendant’s motion to dismiss on one count it violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, but otherwise denied the motion it violated the statute by placing a debt to be collected without having a proper license to do so.
TRUEACCORD FINED $10K BY STATE REGULATOR
- The Connecticut Department of Banking has entered into a consent order with TrueAccord for a number of alleged violations, including collecting on loans that violated state usury laws, commingling funds from its business account with funds in its trust accounts, and advertising financial products and services of unlicensed affiliates in communications with consumers.
