CFPB SUES PAYMENT NETWORK FOR ‘DUPING‘ USERS INTO PAYING $300M IN ‘JUNK’ FEES
- For tricking 3 million people into signing up for a “free” trial that they had to cancel or be charged automatically, the CFPB sued Active Network yesterday.
- The company also failed to notify individuals in advance that the annual fee was increasing from one year to the next before automatically charging the card on file.

N.Y. DFS FINES COMPANY $4.5M FOR FAILED CONTROLS THAT LED TO DATA BREACH
- Nine employees at the company shared access to the email account that was breached, because multi-factor authentication had not yet been installed.
- The company also did not have proper disposal policies, leading to six years’ worth of consumer data being accessible through the infected email account.
