APPEALS COURT AFFIRMS RULING HOLDING INDIVIDUAL LIABLE FOR VIOLATIONS OF CFPA, TSR
- The Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit has affirmed a lower court’s ruling holding an individual liable for violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Telemarketing Sales Rule, and the Consumer Financial Protection Act after he — and other defendants — were sued by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for allegedly obtaining individuals’ credit reports illegally and charging advance fees for debt relief services.

ANTI-ROBOCALL BILL INTRODUCED IN WASHINGTON STATE
- The Attorney General of Washington is working with a member of the state legislature to introduce legislation aimed at curbing illegal robocalls in the state, updating a current law that the AG says is “weak and out-of-date.” The new law, if enacted, would prohibit making robocalls to individuals on the Do Not Call registry, prohibit deliberately falsifying Caller ID displays, and include a private right of action among other provisions.
