How did you get your start in the industry?
By accident! I moved to California and needed a job, so I said “Yes!” to Alicia Sundstrom and a wonderful journey began.
What is your career highlight so far?
FCN runs a non-profit called FCN Cares. We will celebrate 40 years with Kids for Christmas this year. Although it’s morphed a bit since COVID, we bring the magic of Christmas to over 300 underserved children in Tulare County. Check out our website – www.annskidsforchristmas.org! It’s what makes working hard all year worth it.
When or how are you most productive?
In the evenings, when all the staff logs off, and I can get some work done!
Which industry professional do you admire most?
Most admired – our owner, Alicia Sundstrom. She is an inspiration. Her dedication to the FCN family is unmatched. I also meet with a peer group each week with some unbelievable professionals. I admire each one of them immensely.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
I’ve been told I have the gift of pixie charm – I claim it as my super power.
What do you like most about this industry?
The collaborative spirit. There are so many willing to share their successes and challenges. It helps remind us that we are not alone in this crazy, change every 20 minutes, industry.
What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
I know I shouldn’t say this and might get in trouble, but I wish we could have more of an industry standard for pricing structures. We shoot ourselves in the foot with the lowball rates out there.
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
I’d be a carpenter – you’ll find me in my woodshop most weekends.
Describe a typical work day
Walk in the door, put out some fires, learn as much as I can, encourage people to be and do their best, leave with a smile.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Watching cheesy rom-coms on Netflix.
What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Believe the best in people.

I’ve circled back to some of Patrick Lencioni’s stuff from the early 2000’s – “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team.” Great leadership lessons.
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I’m shy in a crowd, but love to develop mutually beneficial one-on-one or small group relationships in the industry.
