A Michigan-based revenue cycle management company that also collects bad debt has disclosed a data breach that compromised the personal information of nearly 500,000 individuals — the second such disclosed incident in the accounts receivable management industry in as many days.
What Happened: Designed Receivable Solutions detected suspicious activity on its network back in January. Upon discovering the activity, the company took steps to secure its network and then hired a cybersecurity firm to conduct an investigation. The investigation uncovered that an unauthorized actor accessed certain files and data that was stored on the company’s network.
- The company then sought to ascertain whose information was affected. It notified those individuals in March. As of today, the company says it has no evidence that any of the information has been misused by a third party.
- The unauthorized actor potentially accessed and acquired the names, addresses, and Social Security numbers of the victims.
What It’s Doing: The company said it will be enhancing the security of its systems and has deployed additional monitoring tools.
- The company is providing individuals whose information was affected with access to Single Bureau Credit Monitoring/Single Bureau Credit Report/Single Bureau Credit Score service for 12 months at no charge to the consumer.
- The company is also providing proactive fraud assistance to help with any questions if an individual because the victim of identity fraud.
- The company is also making representatives and fraud specialists available for 90 days to assist impacted individuals with any questions they might have.
