Truecaller, which bills itself as the world’s best Caller ID and Spam Blocking app has announced that its customers can now use an AI-powered voice assistant to answer calls in their own voice. Paying customers of the service will be able to replicate their voices using Personal Voice technology from Microsoft and will be able to greet and respond to calls. This means that companies making outbound calls may have those calls answered by a bot that sounds just like the person the company is trying to reach.
Customers just need to record a script — a few seconds of reading — in their own voice to create the digital replica. Truecaller has installed one safety measure — if customers are using their own voice instead of a system-generated one to answer and respond to calls, the technology makes it clear to callers that they are hearing a digital version of the individual’s voice.
The technology will start rolling out to customers in the United States in the coming weeks.

Truecaller first rolled out its AI Assistant in September 2022 which can answer calls for customers, screen calls, take messages, respond on the customer’s behalf, or record a call, but that technology did not include the ability to use the customer’s own voice.
