While her career path may have started in human resources, Emily Adkins has found a home in litigation. Now the director of litigation outsourcing with Security Credit Services, she relishes in getting to know people from around the country and challenges that each new day brings. Read on to learn more about Emily, why giving her a goal is going to make her work harder, and how she is the first generation on her father’s side to be born in the United States.

How did you get your start in the industry?
I started with a debt buyer in Human Resources. I was then promoted to the Director or Legal Operations and was working with the external network in addition to the internal operation. I found that litigation was my place!
What is your career highlight so far?
I am fortunate to have multiple wins throughout my career. I have made a lot of process improvements that have increased net profits and reduced expenses.
When or how are you most productive?
I am the most productive when I have a goal/expectation to meet.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
Kaye Dreifuerst. Kaye is our President at Security Credit. A great leader is someone that you can learn from. Kaye has been the RMAi president, has been in the industry for many years, and is very collaborative. I have already learned so much from her in my short tenure here.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
I don’t like to think I do anything better than anyone else. I feel that I have learned my strengths from multiple colleagues and leaders. I think my greatest strength is communication. I like to strategize and share tips and tricks I have learned from others. I want to ensure that as a team we have all the facts so we can collaborate on strategies.
What do you like most about this industry?
I love the challenges that it brings and the relationships I have created. I have relationships with people all over the country. I love that I can learn from them about what their state obstacles and challenges are.

What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
How the public perceives industry when we are an important part of our economy.
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
My career prior was in Human Resources. I would still probably be working within that.
Describe a typical work day.
One of the reasons I love operations is because it always brings new challenges. However, a typical day is checking email, meeting with firms, reviewing inventory, and internal meetings.
What is your guilty pleasure?
I play sand volleyball.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
There is enough room for all of us to be successful. Teamwork makes the dreamwork.
What are you currently reading?
Only emails for the time being.
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
Fun fact is that I am the first generation in the United States on my father’s side. My father was born and raised in Italy. He moved to the U.S. when he was 25 years old.
