There are people who look at a product or process and appreciate them for what they are. And then there are people who look at that same product or process and start looking for ways to make them better. Kellie Belote is in that second group of people. How did you get your start in the industry?
I started at a Portfolio Recovery Associates as an analyst and from there got involved with debt settlement companies. I switched from the creditor side to debt settlement side in 2021.
What is your career highlight so far?
I was given the opportunity to build a team from scratch: Create new roles, processes, procedures and a culture of growth which benefited the company and the employees. It is something I will never forget.
When or how are you most productive?
When there is problem to fix or a puzzle to solve. I thrive on process improvement.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
This one is hard as I have just started expanding my network in the industry over the past two years. So I don’t have a single person, I look up to those who are working toward change and who encourage others to do the same.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
Not sure if it’s better than everyone else, but I constantly ask “why are we doing this” or “why are we doing it this way.” I am always looking for a better, more trackable, more efficient way to get the job done.
What do you like most about this industry?
The people I have met and on the debt settlement side helping clients get out of debt.

What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
I wish that all the players involved in the industry would be open-minded to change and let go of past assumptions.
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
I would be doing data analysis and process improvement somewhere. It’s what makes me enjoy what I do.
Describe a typical work day.
Meetings mostly… planned or spur of the moment. Being remote I like to focus on face time with my team daily so collaborative conversations instead of instant messages is how we make that happen.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Reality TV. I don’t know what it is about the Housewives & all things Bravo, cooking competitions, and Naked & Afraid but I love to watch them!
What is the best advice you have ever received?
What got you here won’t get you there. It’s a book and the title really tells it all. What you did to get you to the level you are at isn’t enough to propel you to the next level, you need to work harder, smarter, different to level up.
What are you currently reading?
I am ashamed to say that I have not picked up a book in a while. If I did, it would be a mystery or a police thriller. I will be reading First Round Essentials Management for the company leadership book club if that counts.
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I am passionate about what I do and happy to discuss it with anyone.
