Like many, Stephanie Strickler has family to thank for getting her start in the credit and collection industry. And unless the opportunity to open a wine and cheese shop presents itself one day, she’ll be happy to stay here. Perhaps it’s the combination of her loves of true crime and jigsaw puzzles that led her to become a lawyer. Read on to learn more about Stephanie, why she has a newfound respect for working moms, and what music helps get her focused and productive in the morning.

Name: Stephanie Strickler
Job Title: Senior Associate Attorney
Company: Messer Strickler Burnette, Ltd.
Length of time at current company: 8 years
Length of time in industry: 11 years

How did you get your start in the industry?
My lovely sister-in-law – you may have heard of her, Nicole Strickler, hired me with her old firm when I graduated from law school in 2013. The rest is history…

What is your career highlight so far?
There have been a lot over the years, but I’d say, I’m very proud of any chance we can get a good opinion on a case that helps the industry.

When or how are you most productive?
I am most productive early in the morning with a cup of coffee and listening to music by Hans Zimmer.

Which industry professional do you admire most?
After having my daughter in 2024, I have a newfound respect and admiration for all the working moms in the industry. Particularly, Nicole Strickler and Lauren Burnette, whom I work with daily. These women are very good at what they do and are also amazing moms.

What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
I have a lot of patience, which I think goes a long way. I’m also very good at putting together jigsaw puzzles.

What do you like most about this industry?
I really enjoy all the people I’ve met in the industry. I’ve met some very intelligent and genuine individuals.

What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
This is not so much about the industry as it is the court system, but I would like to see more accountability for plaintiff’s attorneys’ actions and/or inactions. There seems to be little to no consequences for some of the plaintiff’s attorneys’ manufactured claims.

If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
Good question! This is where I started in my career, and I can’t see myself anywhere else. However, I’ve always wanted to have my own wine and cheese shop.

Describe a typical work day.
The fun part about my job is that there is no “typical” work day. It generally starts out the same, but there is always something that comes up – there is never a dull moment.

What is your guilty pleasure?
I love watching Dateline and true crime documentaries. Add in a glass of wine and that’s a perfect Friday night for me!

What is the best advice you have ever received?
Don’t sweat the small things.

What are you currently reading?
I wish I could say I was reading outside of work, but between work and raising my 9-month-old daughter, I have very little time!

What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I am always happy to help people. I’ve found a huge camaraderie among everyone in the industry, and I believe in paying it forward.

Who else would you like to see answer these questions?
