CFPB Proposes Rule to Tighten Standards for Nonbank Supervision
- The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has proposed a new rule that would establish a binding definition of “risks to consumers” under the Consumer Financial Protection Act, limiting the agency’s ability to designate nonbank entities for supervision. Published in the Federal Register today, the proposal aims to ensure consistency and clarity in how the CFPB exercises its authority over nonbanks engaged in consumer financial products or services, including those in credit, collections, and debt buying.

FCC Removes 1,200 Providers in Sweeping Robocall Crackdown
- The Federal Communications Commission has removed more than 1,200 voice service providers from its Robocall Mitigation Database, effectively cutting them off from the U.S. phone network. The action, announced Monday, marks the agency’s largest enforcement move to date against companies that failed to comply with federal anti-robocall requirements.

WebRecon July 2025 Stats: Everything is Back Up Again
- After a dip in most statute filings last month, everything is back up in July. TCPA (+6.2%), FDCPA (+4.9%) and FCRA (+18.9%(!)) were all up for the month of July. YTD, TCPA (+52.7%) and FCRA (+23%) are both way up, while FDCPA (-5.3%) is the only one still lagging behind last year. But even that margin shrunk (by -.6%) last month, following a months-long pattern of getting smaller.
