If you are looking for someone to sugarcoat news to make it seem less scary or bad, Todd Wyatt might not be the guy you go to. But as Todd has learned, being brutally honest doesn’t have to come at the expense of making a connection with someone. And he loves making connections, especially when it comes to mentoring the next generation of industry leaders and beyond. Read on to learn more about Todd, the innovation he has brought to the industry, and what he gains when he spends time in the outdoors.

Name: Todd Wyatt
Job Title: CEO
Company: S&A Legal Management Services and Scott & Associates, PC
Length of time at current company: 16 Years
Length of time in industry: 20 Years

How did you get your start in the industry?
I began my career in technology consulting, focusing primarily on call center operations and large-scale data systems. My work centered on designing and optimizing infrastructure, improving reporting capabilities, and helping organizations leverage technology to operate more efficiently. That experience gave me significant exposure to executive leadership teams and a firsthand view into how organizational structure, decision-making, and culture directly impact performance. As I spent more time working alongside senior leaders, my role naturally evolved beyond the technical side of the business. I became increasingly involved in strategic planning, operational design, and broader business consulting. I found that I was just as interested in how organizations functioned as I was in the systems that supported them, and that realization ultimately set me on a path toward deeper strategic involvement.

During that journey, I was introduced to Michael J. Scott, PC and its founder, Michael J. Scott, at a pivotal time in the firm’s early growth. What began as a relatively short-term engagement quickly turned into something much more meaningful. Mike was just starting what would become a very large and very special organization, and I was fortunate to step in at a stage where I could help shape the operational foundation and long-term strategy.

What is your career highlight so far?
One of the highlights of my career so far has been helping lead what I believe was a meaningful shift within our niche of the ARM industry. We were among the first, if not the first, to successfully introduce third-party institutional investment into this space. At the time, it was far from conventional thinking. At least the legal segment of the ARM industry had traditionally operated without that type of capital structure, and bringing outside investors into the equation required vision, credibility, and a willingness to challenge the status quo. We recognized early on that institutional capital could accelerate growth, drive operational sophistication, and position firms in our space to compete at a higher level. It wasn’t simply about funding , it was about building a scalable, professionally managed platform that could withstand scrutiny and operate with greater transparency and discipline.

Since then, we’ve seen considerable momentum, with other law firms following a similar path. Watching that broader evolution unfold, knowing we helped pave the way, has been incredibly rewarding. It’s not just a milestone for our organization, but a shift in how the industry views growth, structure, and long-term sustainability.

When or how are you most productive?
Individually, I’m most productive when I have uninterrupted time and space to think. I am good at multitasking but find that for me to really dig down deep on a topic, I need a totally clear runway. While I value collaboration and team engagement, some of my best work happens in quiet moments without distraction. That said, I am most effective as a leader when collaborating, leveraging the combined insight and energy of a team to solve more complex problems.

Which industry professional do you admire most?
There are so many exceptional professionals in our industry that it’s difficult to single out just one. But for the purpose of this question, I’m especially drawn to those who have worked tirelessly to bring our industry together…to foster collaboration, organization, and education in a space that can often feel fragmented and highly competitive. Leaders like Joann Needleman of Clark Hill, Liz Terry of National Creditors Bar Association, Heath Morgan of Martin Golden Lyons, Scott Hamilton of ARM Tech Advisors, and of course Mike Gibb have all played important roles in strengthening the fabric of our profession.

We operate in a very competitive environment. One that, at times, feels isolated and surrounded by significant regulatory, legal, and reputational risks. It would be easy for firms to remain siloed and purely self-focused. The individuals I’ve mentioned have done the opposite. They’ve invested their time and credibility into unifying businesses, educating stakeholders, helping navigate risk, and working to present an accurate and responsible image of who we are and why our work matters. That kind of leadership, collaborative rather than territorial, is something I deeply admire. It elevates not just individual firms, but the entire industry.

What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
I think everyone has unique gifts, and one of mine is the ability to communicate with brutal honesty while still fostering and maintaining meaningful relationships built on trust. I’ve found that being candid doesn’t have to come at the expense of connection — in fact, it often strengthens it, allowing for deeper collaboration and stronger bonds over time. I think this ability is rare because honesty, especially in high-stakes or competitive environments, can sometimes push people away. For me, it’s about balancing transparency with integrity and understanding, creating an environment where challenges are addressed head-on. That balance has consistently allowed me to help teams, clients, and colleagues navigate difficult situations without compromising trust or connection.

What do you like most about this industry?
What I enjoy most about this industry is the challenge of working against the grain. The ARM industry has long faced reputational challenges, some deserved, others not, and much of the work we do isn’t typically celebrated in everyday conversation. That reality, however, creates a unique opportunity…the chance to do things differently and set a new standard for how our industry operates. At the core of our approach is treating people with dignity and respect; a principle I apply both across the organization and in my own leadership. This is non-negotiable. Years ago, I established the firm motto, “Performance without Compromise,” and it has guided everything we do. For me, the true reward is the opportunity to demonstrate that even in an industry with a tough reputation, it’s possible to deliver results while operating ethically, responsibly, and with respect for others.

What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
One thing I wish I could change about this industry is the difficulty of innovating in such a highly risk-averse environment. The combination of strict regulations and external pressures can sometimes limit flexibility, making it challenging to implement new ideas or approaches. With technology increasingly at the core of how businesses operate, it often feels like we are trying to drive progress while constrained by significant safeguards. Finding ways to balance regulatory compliance and risk management with innovation would allow the industry to evolve more rapidly, improve efficiency, and better serve clients and consumers alike.

If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
If I weren’t in this industry, I would volunteer in programs focused on mentoring the next generation(s), specifically young men. I believe that in today’s increasingly fragmented and under-socialized society, many young men are navigating life without the guidance and support they need to thrive. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of mentoring others in a business context, helping them grow professionally and make thoughtful decisions. I would love to extend that mentorship into life more broadly, guiding young men as they face personal, social, and ethical challenges. The need is significant, and I believe the impact could be profound, not just for the individuals themselves but for society as a whole.

Describe a typical work day.
I’ve tried to create a structured workday, but in reality, it’s been a challenge to live strictly within those boundaries. When I’m not trying to dig out of email, my day typically includes participation in application development and technology scrums, client performance calls, and regular touchpoints with my direct reports. These interactions keep me connected to both the operational and strategic sides of the business. I truly believe that consistent communication and collaboration are essential to maintaining both performance and culture. It’s also an essential discipline that keeps me aligned and current in an environment that is constantly evolving.

What is your guilty pleasure?
Ice cream! Those that know, know. And for the short two years that I maintained a Ketogenic diet…those were some of the worst days of my life.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
Very cliché, but “Perception is reality”. This advice has helped me navigate relationships in both business and life.

What are you currently reading?
I don’t have a lot of time to read, but when I do I prefer podcasts, as my only real available time is while driving. I like topics around Wildlife Management, Timber Stand Improvement (TSI), and Archery. I also really enjoy almost anything from Jordan B. Peterson, particularly his biblical series.

What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I’m an avid archery hunter and spend much of my free time in the woods. As part of my passion for whitetail deer hunting, I’m actively involved in land management practices that enhance wildlife habitat, promote conservation, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the ecosystem. Archery hunting is more than a hobby; it’s a discipline that requires significant patience and preparation. For me, time amongst nature provides perspective, clarity, and a reset from the pace of business which allows me to slow down and recenter.

Who else would you like to see answer these questions?
Sangram Raje, CTO and co-founder of Prodigal.
