A new healthcare-focused fintech company is entering the growing market for medical debt management with a platform designed to consolidate medical bills, reduce balances, and simplify repayment for consumers juggling multiple provider statements.
Missouri-based moopFi officially launched this week, positioning itself as a centralized platform where patients can upload medical bills from different providers, receive an immediate 10% reduction on the total principal owed, and manage repayment through a single dashboard and monthly payment plan.
The company says the idea emerged from co-founder Ali Tweel’s personal experiences navigating medical billing during a high-risk pregnancy and a parent’s cancer treatment. According to Tweel, the issue was not only the cost of healthcare itself, but the fragmented nature of the billing system.
“A single episode of care can generate multiple bills, each with its own format, timeline, and payment options,” Tweel said in the launch announcement.
Under the platform’s model, users upload bills from hospitals, specialists, labs, or other providers into a secure dashboard. moopFi then coordinates payment directly with providers while the consumer manages a single consolidated payment arrangement. The company says consumers can avoid setting up multiple payment plans or navigating separate billing portals and due dates.
The launch comes as medical debt remains a persistent issue for households nationwide. According to data cited by the company from the Missouri Foundation for Health, roughly half of Missouri adults have carried medical debt within the last five years, while 39% currently hold medical debt. The data also found that many consumers with medical debt had insurance coverage at the time the healthcare expenses were incurred.
MoopFi enters an increasingly active healthcare-fintech segment that includes companies focused on medical bill negotiation, employer-sponsored healthcare payment plans, and healthcare financing products. The company’s model centers on providing an automatic principal reduction upfront rather than negotiating bills after the fact.
Robin Robeson, a Missouri executive serving as an executive advisor and board member for moopFi, said the platform is intended to reduce frustration around healthcare billing and provide consumers with “clarity and real financial relief.”
Because the platform handles both healthcare and financial information, moopFi partnered with Missouri-based software engineering firm Moonbeam Development to build a custom system designed to manage healthcare billing workflows and sensitive data.
The company says its platform is now available to Missouri consumers.
