CareCloud, a health care technology company serving more than 45,000 providers across the U.S., is deploying an agentic AI voice agent called stratusAI that is intercepting and resolving the majority of inbound patient calls without human intervention, and early results from live customers suggest the technology is working well enough that some patients do not realize they are talking to a machine.
The product, which CareCloud describes as an AI-powered front desk agent, handles scheduling, prescription refill requests, lab inquiries, and general questions in real time, around the clock, in more than 30 languages. The company says early deployments are resolving up to 80% of calls end to end, with zero hold time. It is priced on a per-completed-call basis, and contracts are already in place for a projected annualized call volume of more than one million calls once current deployments are fully ramped.
The most detailed customer account came from Dr. Edsel Holden, a pulmonary and sleep medicine physician in Florence, Alabama, who deployed the agent in December 2025 and shared his experience during CareCloud’s recent earnings call with analysts. His practice named the agent Stacy, gave her a Southern accent, and within the first month, she handled 1,871 of 3,608 inbound calls. Patient empathy scores registered at 87%. The results were not without friction. Stacy occasionally double-booked appointments early on, phone routing required reconfiguration, and establishing meaningful KPIs took time. But the broader impact on the practice was significant. Patient satisfaction scores rose from 2.5 out of 5 to between 4.7 and 4.8. Holden noted that 100% of charts in his practice are now closed at the end of the day, compared to a fraction before.
CareCloud Chief Strategy Officer Hadi Chaudhry positioned stratusAI as something fundamentally different from a bolt-on product. The agent is integrated directly into the company’s EHR and practice management platform, meaning it knows who the patient is and has access to their clinical record when a call comes in. It is not a transcription tool sitting alongside existing software. It is embedded in the workflow.
The company is already working on outbound agent capabilities, and customers including Fox Rehabilitation have expressed strong interest in using AI for appeals management, specifically the ability to analyze CMS regulations, build appeals, and generate letters without manual intervention.
For collections and lending professionals, the stratusAI story is worth watching closely. The architecture CareCloud is deploying, an agentic voice system that handles inbound contact, verifies information, routes escalations, and logs outcomes inside a larger platform, maps directly onto contact center and collections operations. The question the industry will need to answer is not whether this technology works. CareCloud’s numbers suggest it does. The question is how quickly purpose-built versions of it arrive in the debt resolution space.
