There are people who tolerate questions and there are people who welcome them. Josh Seuberling, to the benefit of the credit and collections industry, is one of those in the second category. Sharing knowledge, diving deep, and not holding anything back — is there anything else you would want from someone who has spent more than 30 years working in an industry? How did you get your start in the industry?
I started as a part-time collector at a major midwest bank while in my first year of college.
What is your career highlight so far?
My career highlight was being an owner in a collection agency in the early 2000’s. Our agency was built on predictive modeling before it was “cool”. Our efforts paid off with back-to-back agency of the year awards for a large national debt buyer.
When or how are you most productive?
I am most productive when there are tight timeframes on major deliverables. I thrive under pressure when I am being counted on to deliver.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
I have met so many wonderful people over the years. I have always been the biggest fan of operators that are willing to dive deep and truly discuss the nuances of our industry. As far as the individual that I have always looked up to and respected, I would have to say Joe Burch formerly of Accounts Receivable Management in New Jersey.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
What a loaded question! I don’t necessarily think I do anything better than anyone else, but I do think I do a good job listening to and understanding what others are doing well and look to incorporate or improve on those ideas and actions.
What do you like most about this industry?
I love the aspect of teaching and mentoring others that are coming up in this industry. I could talk credit and collections with anyone and love seeing new faces that are excelling and growing in this crazy environment.
What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
I’d love to change the regulatory environment in which we operate.
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
I can’t really imagine doing anything differently. My career in this industry has been very rewarding. I have met some wonderful people, have found success, and have genuinely enjoyed the path I have taken over the last 30+ years.
Describe a typical work day.
Is there ever truly a ‘typical day’? I think that normal is really defined as being prepared to deal with the abnormal.
What is your guilty pleasure?
A really well-crafted cocktail or a three-way from skyline chili (if you know, you know)
What is the best advice you have ever received?
At the end of the day, you should be able to pat yourself on the back and say ‘job well done’

What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I absolutely love to cook and have gotten pretty good at it. It has been a great hobby and truly enjoy hosting multi-dish tasting dinners.
