Under the CARES Act, companies are eligible for a tax credit as a means of encouraging them to keep employees on the payroll. Called the Employee Retention Tax Credit, it is open to employers with fewer than 500 employees, as long as they paid qualified wages to their employees between March 2020 and December 2021.
