The Federal Trade Commission has released a video, which shares the story of a veteran who was being pursued for old debts, which were subsequently sold to a debt buying company.
The veteran sought help from a legal aid service, which was able to get the company that had filed suit against the veteran to admit it didn’t have the proper documentation to proceed with the suit.
Ignoring the rhetoric of the legal aid lawyer (companies who buy debt are multi-million dollar companies), the video sends a helpful message to consumers not to hide when contacted by a debt collector. Seek information, seek help, and that’s how a successful resolution can be attained.
