- Tucked inside yesterday’s announcement from the Federal Trade Commission that highlighted a series of actions against rogue and illegal debt collectors was an update from the state of Minnesota’s Commerce Department, which has been busy in its own right. Minnesota has taken action against three different operations, for such activities as operating unlicensed locations, sending notifications to consumers that used language intended to confuse them, and financial mismanagement involving trust accounts used to pay clients.

- While this news about a consumer suing a debt collection agency because the agency allegedly failed to failed to make certain disclosures and include certain language may not seem like much, it does beg the question: shouldn’t agencies be using standardized templates that include all the necessary boilerplate language that needs to be included when communicating with consumers?
CALL ME, DEFINITELY
- Experian has released a product that aims to help collection agencies comply with the new provisions of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The product, in real-time, tells customers the type of phone being contacted and verifies the consumer’s number and/or new phone numbers.
