SCHOOL BOARD THREATENS TO REPORT PARENTS AS CHILD ABUSERS FOR NOT SENDING IN LUNCH MONEY
- A school district in New Jersey is threatening to report parents who do not pay for their children’s lunches to child protective services. The cafeterias are obligated to provide lunches to students regardless of whether the child brings in money and parents are taking advantage of the rule and sending in kids without lunch money. However, the state responded that the failure or inability to satisfy debts for school lunches does not constitute a form of child abuse.
INCLUDING MOBILE NUMBER IN EMAIL SERVES AS TCPA CONSENT TO BE CONTACTED, COURT RULES
- A real estate agent who provided his mobile phone number in his email several years ago can not file a TCPA lawsuit against a brokerage who used that number to send the agent unsolicited text messages, a federal judge has ruled. Including the mobile number in the email served as providing consent to be contacted on that number, the court ruled.
LOUISIANA TOWN APPROVES 25% COLLECTION FEE
- A town in Louisiana has approved an ordinance that will allow it to add a 25% fee on top of any delinquent debts owed to the town. The fee will be added to all outstanding balances – for court costs, delinquent fines and unpaid utilities – before being handed over to a collection agency.
