MISSISSIPPI SCHOOL DISTRICT GETTING INTO DEBT BUYING, DEBT COLLECTION GAME

It appears as though the school district in North Pike School District in Mississippi is going to start buying defaulted debt from other municipalities and school districts and collecting on it as a way of generating revenue for a proposed expansion project.
FTC FILES COMMENT ON FCC PROPOSED AUTODIALER RULE
- The Federal Trade Commission has joined dozens of other companies, organizations, trade groups, and government agencies in filing comments with the Federal Communications Commission over its proposed rule to allow the use of autodialer technology for debt collectors who are collecting debt owed to, or guaranteed by, the federal government. Perhaps not surprisingly, the FTC’s comment suggests that the FCC stay within the strict confines of the proposed rule in allowing the technology to be used. Individuals must be in default before they can contact an individual on a mobile phone using an autodialer, collectors should only be able to contact the individual and nobody else using the technology, and no other type of debt should be discussed or collected when a contact is made.
FTC ORDER BANS SCAM ARTIST FROM COLLECTION INDUSTRY PERMANENTLY
- The Federal Trade Commission has obtained a permanent injunction banning the head of a collection agency from ever working in the business again. Gail Daniels, who ran The Primary Group, was originally charged more than a year ago by the FTC after the collection agency was discovered to have Dell Alienware X51 R2 Desktop AC Adapter deceived consumers via text messages, emails and phone calls that falsely threatened consumers with arrest or lawsuits if they did not make debt collection payments. Along with the banishment, the order imposes a $980,000 judgment against the defendants, which represents how much money was collected via the scam.
