NEW MEXICO CITY WANTS TO HIRE COLLECTION AGENCY TO RECOVER $1.5 MILLION UN UNPID UTILITY BILLS
- A city in New Mexico is looking at changing its ordinances so it can hire a collection agency to help recover more than $1.5 million in unpaid utility bills. Nearly two-thirds of the total is from closed accounts that are more than 90 days behind. The city is looking to hire The Advantage Group, an Albuquerque-based collection agency, to go after those individuals. The collection agency will keep 14.75% of whatever it collects. Current city code does not explicitly allow the hiring of a collection agency, which is why it is being updated.
RECOVERITY, AN ONLINE DATING SERVICE FOR COLLECTION AGENCIES, CLIENTS
- A profile of Miguel Leman and his start-up, Recoverity. Recoverity is an online matching service for small businesses seeking to hire collection agencies. Most of Recoverity’s current clients are companies in the healthcare field. The company also says it is building an app that will “open a whole new market of small businesses” to collection agencies.

VAST MAJORITY OF STUDENTS, PARENTS, PAYING OFF CREDIT CARD DEBT MONTHLY
- Nearly 90% of the credit card debt incurred by students is being paid off every month, and only 18% of those payments are coming from parents, according to a survey conducted by Equifax. More than 72% of students are paying off their credit card bills, in full every month, the survey revealed. The purpose of the survey was to show that students are not taking advantage of access to their free credit reports but those surveyed were more educated on how credit scores are positively and negatively affected than generations past.
DELINQUENCY RATE ON PRIME, SUBPRIME AUTO LOANS SPIKING
- The delinquency rate on prime and subprime auto loans is spiking, according to a report from Fitch Ratings. The report indicates that the delinquency rate on subprime auto loans that were packaged and sold into asset-backed securities jumped 28% in July, compared to a year ago. The delinquency rate on prime auto loans jumped 21%. More than 7% of all subprime auto loans are now delinquent, according to the report.
