LAW PROFESSORS PUBLISH PAPER ON CFPB PROPOSAL; SHARE INSIGHTS INTO HOW AGENCIES SHOULD COMPLY
- Collection agencies should not wait until the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau enacts a new rule to make changes to their operations, especially since the agency has already issued a roadmap for how it will likely move forward, according to a pair of law professors who published a paper earlier this week assessing the impact of the ideas put forth by the CFPB. The paper offers an analysis of the proposals as well as an attempt to estimate the impact that each will have on the industry, although it does not get into too many specifics.

CFPB DIRECTOR TALKS ABOUT DEBT COLLECTION RULEMAKING, BUT OFFERS FEW NEW DETAILS
- In prepared remarks yesterday before a meeting of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau‘s Consumer Advisory Board, agency Director Richard Cordray addressed efforts by those under his command to regulate the collections industry. While not necessarily breaking any new ground or making any new revelations, Cordray’s remarks reinforced the CFPB’s interests in pushing forward with a debt collection rule that will further protect consumers, while also providing further clarifications to collectors.
THE THREE QUESTIONS ON EVERY SAVVY RECEIVABLES LEADER’S MIND
- As the calendar turns toward another year, collection agency executives have a number of questions facing them that need answers. Those questions deal with important topics, such as working with members of the military, filing proofs of claim on debts that are listed in bankruptcy proceedings, and reacting to ACA International’s lawsuit against the Federal Communications Commission.
