The Federal Trade Commission announced today that it has named Thomas Pahl, currently a partner at the law firm of Arnall Golden Gregory, to be the acting director of its Bureau of Consumer Protection, replacing Jessica Rich, who announced her departure yesterday.
Pahl has previously worked at the FTC, serving as the Assistant Director in the Division of Advertising Practices and Division of Financial Practices. It was also noted in the release announcing the appointment that Pahl had served as an advisor to two FTC commissioners, one an appointee of former President Ronald Reagan, and one who was also a Republican.
Pahl has also worked at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on debt collection issues. While working at Arnall Golden Gregory, he represented clients on consumer financial protection issues, including credit reporting and debt collections.
“Tom’s career demonstrates his continuing commitment to protecting consumers through active enforcement and advocacy that promotes a free and honest marketplace,” said Acting FTC Chairman Maureen K. Ohlhausen. “His thoughtful approach will help ensure consumers benefit from thriving competition and innovation. Tom’s talent, deep consumer protection experience, and strong principles make him perfect to lead the Bureau of Consumer Protection, and I’m very pleased to have him aboard.”
