LEMBERG BLASTS FORBES FOR PUBLISHING ‘FAKE’ NEWS ABOUT ROBOCALLS
- Noted plaintiff’s attorney Sergei Lemberg has shot back against an article that was published on Forbes.com (and linked to in a Daily Digest) earlier this week, which accused another attorney and professional plaintiff of racketeering and manufacturing claims that companies violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The three examples cited in the article are “bad eggs,” and “not the whole microsoftproductssettlement picture,” Lemberg claimed in a press released issued this morning. He added: “Corporations need to stop whining and start following the law.”
CITY CANCELS ACCOUNT WITH COLLECTION AGENCY BECAUSE OF COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN
- This is why you need to pick up the phone when clients call your office … A Wisconsin city is cancelling a contract with a collection agency and will be sending unpaid accounts to a state-run department because the city “has had trouble making contact with the company to give it new accounts to go after, and remittances on collections are way down,” according to a published report. The agency, H.E. Stark Collection Agency, has also stopped sending over reports.
REPORTS POINT TO HIGHER LOSSES, TOUGHER TIMES FOR AUTO LENDERS
- The Kentucky Supreme Court has ruled that companies may not charge interest on unpaid credit card balances after the debt has been charged off. A debt buyer sued a customer for an unpaid balance, plus the statutory interest from the date the debt was charged off. The individual counter-sued, saying interest could not be charged. The court ruled that once the debt is charged off and monthly statements are no longer being sent, federal law prohibits charging additional interest.
