TRUMP ADMINISTRATION CONSIDERS MOVING STUDENT LOANS TO TREASURY FROM EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
- The head of the Education Department’s student loan program resigned earlier this week after learning that the department is considering transferring some or all of the $1.4 trillion in outstanding student loans to the Treasury Department. While some applaud the move for the operational efficiencies that could be gained, others criticized the proposal because it could hurt students.
MOST AMERICANS COULD NOT HANDLE UNEXPECTED EXPENSE OF $100: POLL
- Nearly 50% of people are not able to handle an unexpected expense of $100 or more, according to the results of a poll conducted by Bloomberg and New America, a think tank. Only 20% of people are capable of handling an unexpected expense of $1,000 or more, according to the survey, which polled 1,000 Americans of different social, economic, and demographic backgrounds.
