The Attorney General of Massachusetts has announced a $1 million consent order against the collection law firm of Lustig, Glaser & Wilson, P.C., the largest collection law firm in the state.
In an interview with the Boston Globe, Kenneth Wilson said:
“We fully cooperated with both the attorney general and the court. We produced tens of thousands of documents. And the consent order that entered had no findings of wrongdoing, had no findings of harmed consumers, and, in many respects, memorialized many of the longstanding policies and procedures that the firm has had for many years.”
Wilson did add that some of the firm’s policies and procedures had been modified as a result of the investigation and consent order. He also added that the AG’s allegations that the firm engaged in unfair and deceptive acts or practices were “unfounded.”
The AG’s office was holding a press conference later today to discuss the outcome of the investigation.
The state had previously filed a lawsuit against the firm, alleging it had filed more than 100,000 lawsuits and collected more than $100 million since 2011, in some cases collecting debts using incomplete or inaccurate information.
