CannaBIZ Collects claims to be the nation’s first and only collection agency aimed at the legal cannabis industry.
The agency is focusing on commercial accounts between businesses, according to a press release it issued last night. It is run by Ross Gelfand, whose LinkedIn profile says he received an MBA and a law degree from Emory University in Atlanta.
The press release does not go into specifics why the legal cannabis industry needs a specific collection agency. There are likely to be industry-specific idiosyncrasies that are best managed by an agency with specific knowledge of a particular business category, but the release says the company has specific cannabis industry knowledge.
CannaBIZ Collects does have in-house lawyers who will sue for unpaid debts, the release says. Companies can also outsource their accounts receivable operation to the agency.
