Cleveland County, Okla., is looking for a new collection agency to help it recover $9.3 million in unpaid court costs, spread across 9,000 bench warrants.
The county clerk is looking to switch agencies because the collection rates at the current agency have declined for two consecutive years. The current agency, Aberdeen, has recovered about $3 million in unpaid debts, and received about $600,000 in commissions on those recoveries.
“We’re thinking about changing companies, because in collections you want to move forward and show an increase in profits,” said Marilyn Williams, the clerk for Cleveland County. “We don’t have that. In 2015, Aberdeen collected the most, and it’s decreased the last two years.”
Cleveland Country has been working with Aberdeen since 2010.
One collection agency that is receiving positive reviews from other counties is Account Management Resources, according to Williams.
