The headquarters of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is dealing with a rat infestation, according to a published report.
A spokesman for the agency confirmed there is a rodent problem in the building, related to ongoing construction on a couple of floors of the six-floor building. Employees for the agency moved into their new digs last October, after a $124 million renovation was completed. The renovation ended up costing more than twice as much as anticipated. The building was converted from a “Class C” building, which is the common designation for most federal offices, to a “Class A” building.
“One person had a rat in her trash can, and they couldn’t get it out,” according to a source quoted in the published report. “Rat feces were on the floor and on people’s desks. Rats are running across people’s feet when they’re sitting there trying to work.”
Maybe the rats are why acting director Mick Mulvaney is not spending too much time at the office.
Critics of former director Richard Cordray are enjoying the opportunity to fling more mud in his direction.
“Richard Cordray spent an obscene about of money on renovating the CFPB, and his lavish spending could not even prevent a rat infestation,” said Rep. Sean Duffy, [R-Wisc.].
