Grand Rapids, Mich. (April 1, 2021) — Jack Gordon, the founder and chief executive of WebRecon announced today that he has sold the company to a leading consumer rights law firm. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
For more than a decade, WebRecon has helped companies in the accounts receivable management industry identify consumers who have filed lawsuits accusing companies of violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. Clients of the company have saved themselves millions of dollars in potential legal fees by scrubbing their accounts against WebRecon’s database.
“I’m excited to start a new chapter,” Gordon said. “I have a number of other projects that I have been working on and I wanted to be able to dedicate more of my time to them. WebRecon has been an incredibly important part of my life, but it is time to move on.”
The law firm did not immediately announce its plans for the platform or its database of litigious consumers. But the database and platform may help the law firm grow its book of business as it seeks to increase its presence in representing consumers who feel that they have been wronged by a debt collector.
“This acquisition felt like a natural next step for our development as the leading consumer rights law firm in the country. The opportunity to more closely integrate ourselves with companies in the collection industry will pay huge benefits for us in the long run,” the law firm said in a statement.
In summing up his feelings, Gordon had one last statement about the acquisition: “April Fool’s.”
