One of the jokes about the accounts receivable management industry is that it’s the world’s second-oldest profession. There is a kernel of truth in that statement, though, because as long as people have been buying, selling, and trading with each other, there have been people who have not paid their debts. One of the greatest assets this industry has is the experience of those who have been collecting debts for longer than a lot of the people in this industry have been alive. Those elder statesmen and women have been through the ups and downs, they helped grow the industry to what it is today, and we can all learn from their wisdom.
It is with that in mind that I am so excited to announce the launch of a new series on AccountsRecovery.net — Legends of the ARM industry. Sponsored by Applied Innovation, this series will spotlight career collectors and give them a chance to share their wisdom, their experiences, and their life lessons.
The first legend to be profiled is Gary Williams, the founder of Williams & Fudge. Gary is also a former president of ACA International, and has been instrumental in the growth of the ARM industry during the past four decades. Interviewing Gary for this series is Jack Brown III of Gulf Coast Collection Bureau.
In the interview, Gary talks about the importance of forming relationships with clients and employees and how to go about doing that, the importance of trying to have fun while at work, and why he never worked off a budget.
Each interview will include questions about how the legend got his or her start, the advice they would give people starting in the industry today, and where they see the industry going. The interviews will also include stories and anecdotes that have helped shape the industry into what it is today.
