Erica Pickering has come a long way in just five short years at Sherloq Solutions. Read on to learn more about Erica, why she prefers to work at home, and why you probably won’t ever find her sitting around in one spot for too long.
Name: Erica Pickering
Job Title: Operations Manager
Company: Sherloq Solutions
Length of time at current company: 5 years
Length of time in industry: 5 Years
How did you get your start in the industry?
I got my start with Sherloq! I started with Sherloq as a Patient Account Specialist and then moved to a collector. After being a collector for roughly six months, I began to climb the ladder. I moved from a collector to a lead, then to a supervisor and now hold the position of an Early Out Manager!
What is your career highlight so far?
The pinnacle achievement in my professional trajectory to date has been my promotion to the role of Early Out Manager. Initially harboring doubts regarding my readiness for such a significant responsibility, I have since discovered that this transition has revealed my capability for embracing further challenges. I am profoundly grateful for the valuable experience gained and the trust vested in me accompanying this pivotal role change.
When or how are you most productive?
I have observed that I am exceptionally productive while working from home. In contrast to an office environment, where distractions abound, I find that the tranquility of my home allows me to maintain focus on singular tasks. By adhering to a structured daily agenda, I consistently accomplish the majority, if not all, of my objectives.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
The Vice President of Operations at Sherloq has been instrumental in fostering my professional growth. Since joining the organization, her guidance has consistently encouraged me to set ambitious goals and cultivate self-belief. Furthermore, she has motivated me to explore unfamiliar territories and has imparted knowledge on subjects previously beyond my scope of imagination.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
Establishing trust among the employees under my supervision is paramount. This trust enables me to foster an environment where honesty thrives while simultaneously fostering a positive and enjoyable workplace atmosphere.
What do you like most about this industry?
What I find most appealing about the Early Out Industry is its dynamic nature and the opportunity it provides to make a tangible impact on individuals’ daily knowledge in regards to the services that were rendered, but in addition, their general knowledge on their insurance policies and billing practices they may see in the future!
What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
A notable aspect I aspire to alter within the industry is the prevailing perception held by individuals toward its nature. Beyond mere debt collection or balance advisories, the industry offers extensive opportunities for meaningful engagement. The sheer volume of interactions we facilitate on a daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly basis is remarkable. The ability to impart knowledge and contribute positively to the daily lives of those we engage with is profoundly inspiring.
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
If I was not in this industry, I would more than likely be in the caregiving field still.
Describe a typical work day.
For me, a typical work day consists of meetings, responding to emails, communicating with my team and taking patient calls if needed!
What is your guilty pleasure?
Chocolate!
What is the best advice you have ever received?
It’s ok to sit down – it’s not ok to stay there!
What are you currently reading?
“Extreme Leadership – How U.S. Navy Seals Lead and Win!“
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I am the eldest of six children!
Who else would you like to see answer these questions?
