She doesn’t mind asking the questions that others might be afraid or too shy to ask. Read on to learn more about Dixie, what the Women in Consumer Finance conference taught her, and the type of music she prefers to have playing to keep her motivated throughout the day.
Name: Dixie Newsome
Job Title: Relationship Manager
Company: Crown Asset Management, LLC
Length of time at current company: A little over a year
Length of time in industry: 10 years
How did you get your start in the industry?
I began my career in the industry as a Legal Assistant in the Corporate Counsel department at a large debt buyer. When my previous manager needed a Licensing Manager at a debt collection agency, I transitioned into that role. This opportunity was pivotal in my professional development, allowing me to gain a comprehensive understanding of our industry. I made it a point to learn about every process within our company.
What is your career highlight so far?
I would say attending the Women in Consumer Finance conference was a career highlight for me. It provided an incredible opportunity to expand my network with inspiring women from various sectors of our industry. The diverse perspectives and experiences shared at the conference enriched my professional growth in numerous ways, from gaining new insights into industry trends to developing valuable skills and fostering meaningful connections. This experience has truly empowered me to grow both personally and professionally.
When or how are you most productive?
Bright and early, especially with a cup of coffee and some country music playing in the background.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
That’s a hard question to narrow down to just one, I admire the leaders in this industry who have generously shared their time, knowledge, and guidance with me. The ones who took the time to explain the ‘why’ behind decisions and treated me as a partner. Their kindness, mentorship, and ability to foster collaboration have profoundly shaped my approach to leadership and problem-solving.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
I push myself to consistently go beyond surface-level solutions by identifying root causes. I believe that understanding the ‘why’ unlocks multiple pathways to achieve the desired outcome. Additionally, I thrive on strategic planning, always keeping the big picture in mind while ensuring each step is aligned with the broader vision.
What do you like most about this industry?
What I like most about this industry is the combination of innovation and collaboration. It’s inspiring to work alongside driven, creative individuals who are passionate about achieving maximum results in our fast paced environment.
What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
One thing I wish I could change about this industry is the perception and approach to debt collection. Too often, it’s seen as adversarial rather than a collaborative process. Shifting the focus toward solutions that prioritize dignity, fairness, and transparent communication could foster better outcomes for all parties involved.
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
Lobbyist.
Describe a typical work day.
My typical day starts with a cozy cup of coffee (or two!) and a quick peek at my emails and calendar. It’s then followed by a series of team stand-ups, project meetings, and client calls. I always make sure to take a little lunch break to recharge and come back ready to tackle the afternoon with fresh energy!
What is your guilty pleasure?
Bicycle racing and dark chocolate.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Be a lifelong learner – always ask the question, because someone else may have the same question but hasn’t spoken up yet.
What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading “Radical Candor” by Kim Scott and also enjoying “Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site“, on repeat, a children’s book.
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I place great value on building strong, collaborative connections — because I believe that lasting success is driven by the relationships we cultivate and the insights we share along the way. Also I’m relentless in identifying the root cause of challenges and exploring multiple solutions to achieve the best outcome.
Who else would you like to see answer these questions?
Kelly Burns & Roxanne Bartley
