Like many, Jake Pimental kind of fell into the ARM industry, and like most, he has come to love the people and the culture of collaboration that exists. It may be a far cry from his days of studying to be a doctor, but he’s still helping people. Read on to learn more about Jake, how he likes to spend his Saturdays, and who we have to thank for his involved in collections.
Name: Jake Pimental
Job Title: CEO and cofounder of Tennis Finance
Company: Tennis Finance
Length of time at current company: Two years
Length of time in industry: Eight years in financial services
How did you get your start in the industry?
I met Mike Frost who introduced me to the industry. He mentioned to come to a conference and learn more. After that memorable conference, I realized I enjoyed being around this industry and saw an opportunity to create meaningful impact.
What is your career highlight so far?
Going to the conferences and meeting people in person. Understanding more about how the industry works and what’s important. I never knew what the industry entailed and all the wonderful people who would be in it.
When or how are you most productive?
Early in the morning before everyone is up or right after a coffee in zone with music. I like to use a pomodoro timer lately and seems to be doing the job.
Which industry professional do you admire most?
Mike Frost.
What is one thing you do better than everyone else?
Hype man and product vision.
What do you like most about this industry?
How personable it is. How people care about each other even if you are new or an outsider. I didn’t know what expect not knowing any one bet as I got to to know people, they are very caring and help you out.
What is one thing you wish you could change about this industry?
I’m not sure I would change too much. Maybe other vendors being more open to partnerships. It’s such a unique industry with many wonderful people. People are leaning into technological innovation but some people use very outdated software. I wish people would be more open to change but its also what makes this industry special in a way.
If you weren’t in this industry, what would you be doing?
We help other industries such as fintech and banking but maybe something completely different would be robotics or genetics. GenAI unlocks so much with robots now its incredible. I love building things and was a huge Lego fanatic when I was a kid. I coded Arduinos and enjoy soldering. Fun fact: I was pre-med with a biology degree.
Describe a typical work day.
Email catchup, social media post, standup with the team. Sales efforts, customer support, and marketing effort. One-on-ones with the team and CTO. A little bit of everything at this stage.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Skateboarding for hours and then binging Netflix on a Saturday and eating Johnny Doughnuts.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Just keep going. Not really advice but a lot of times we self-sabotage before we hit our goals. Always be shooting for the best and if you aim for the stars you might just hit the moon.
What are you currently reading?
Just finished “The Courage To Be Happy.” It’s the second book in a series about Adlerian philosophy. I really admire Adlerian philosophy and its teachings, which is similar to stoicism.
What is one fact you’d like everyone in the industry to know about you?
I’m very open to a conversation and just here to learn and build cool things that are helpful for people.
Who else would you like to see answer these questions?
Mike Frost.
