Industry attorney Heath Morgan unexpectedly announced yesterday that he is stepping away from his work in the credit and collection industry after his debut novel, “The Memory Project” was optioned as a television series by Apple TV. Morgan has agreed to help write the series, which is expected to be premier on the streaming service in early April 2028, perhaps as early as April 1.
“In the back of my mind, something like this was always a dream,” Morgan said in an interview with AccountsRecovery. “I never really allowed myself to imagine that it was a legitimate possibility, but I’d be a fool to admit that I never thought this day might come. It means so much that the theme of the book has resonated with so many people and will now even been seen by a worldwide audience.”
“The Memory Project” is a Young Adult novel set more than 50 years in the future and focuses on a government project that aims to rewrite human memories. Society splinters into two groups after a massive data breach exposes the personal information of nearly the everyone on the planet and the two sides, one which embraces artificial intelligence and one that rejects it, are locked in an ideological cold war.
Dan Erickson, who created “Severance” for Apple TV, has signed on to be the showrunner for “The Memory Project” series. While casting calls have not yet been announced, insiders suggest the production is looking for a formidable, outspoken, original lead for the role of the skeptical protagonist.
In a release announcing the news, Erickson did leak that he plans on renaming the Great Data Breach for the series. On the show, the breach will be called the Fragmented Online Overwrite Leak (FOOL) because it will more closely align with the attempt to circumvent and rewrite what really happened and replace it with something that was made up entirely.
Morgan said in his interview that he will wind down his practice and devote all of his attention to getting the series off the ground. Whether he returns to the industry in the future, Morgan said, “Only a fool would believe that you can ever truly overwrite a a future that was built on a lie.”
