- The consumer complaint database maintained by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is “rife” with methodological and analytical flaws, ACA International concludes in a whitepaper the association published yesterday. Without providing specific statistics and instead relying on anecdotal evidence as well as using the CFPB’s own acknowledgements of the limitations of its complaint database, the whitepaper raises several concerns that attempt to provide context and illustrate the inherent biases and flaws that exist in the database.
TOWN LOOKING FOR COLLECTION AGENCY TO HELP COLLECT UNPAID LIBRARY FINES
- A New Hampshire town’s public library system is seeking to hire a collection agency to help it collect on unpaid overdue fines and fees. Without providing specific figures, the amount of overdue fines is at least $25,000. A collection agency is mentioned as a potential partner, and the agency would charge a fee to the library to collect the accounts, a fee to integrate software, and an annual maintenance fee.
SCHOOL BOARD NEEDS HELP RECOVERING $1 MILLION IN UNPAID FINES AND FEES
- The school board in Davenport, Iowa is looking to hire a collection agency to help it recover $1 million in unpaid fines and fees. The board is facing a budget shortfall and may have to consider cutting programs and services if some of that money is not recovered.
